Privacy Policy

Sono Music Player (“Sono,” “we,” “us”) is an app that lets Shopify merchants add a music player to their online store. This policy explains what information we handle, why, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it plain and honest.
The short version
Sono only handles the information it needs to play your music on your store. We do not collect personal information from your storefront visitors, we do not set advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell anyone's data.
Information we collect
From you, the merchant
When you install Sono, Shopify shares standard account details with us so the app can work in your admin. This includes your store's domain, the basic profile of the person who installs the app (such as name, email address, and locale provided by Shopify), and an access token that lets the app act on your store within the permissions you grant.
Sono requests only two permissions: the ability to read your theme (so the player can be turned on from your theme editor) and the ability to manage files (so the audio you upload can be stored on Shopify's content delivery network). Sono does not request access to your customers, orders, or products.
Content you create
We store the music and details you add in the app so the player can serve them to your storefront. This includes your audio files, playlists, track information (such as title, artist, album, artwork, lyrics, release date, copyright, links, and call-to-action text), and your player settings (such as display mode, color scheme, position, and your current plan). Audio files are stored on Shopify's file storage for your store; the rest is stored in our app database.
From your storefront visitors
Sono does not collect personal information from people who visit your store, and it does not set tracking or advertising cookies. To keep playback smooth, the player saves the current track and position in the visitor's own browser (using session storage that clears when the tab closes). That information stays on the visitor's device and is not sent to us. When the player loads, it asks your store for the playlist to show; that request is handled through Shopify's standard app proxy.
How we use information
We use the information above to run the app: to authenticate your store, show and save your settings, store and deliver your music to your storefront, apply the limits of your plan, and provide support when you ask for it. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it.
How information is shared
We share information only with the services that make the app run:
- Shopify — the platform Sono is built on. Your account details, theme access, and uploaded files are handled through Shopify.
- Our hosting provider — Sono runs on Railway, with a PostgreSQL database, which stores your settings and track details on our behalf.
We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as the app is installed on your store. When you uninstall Sono, the access token for your store is revoked. You can ask us to delete the playlists, tracks, and settings associated with your store at any time by emailing us, and we will do so. Audio files you uploaded are stored in your own store's Shopify files and can be removed from there.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the information we handle, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, contact us using the details below and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
